What you'll learn
Avery Skye looks like the girl next door—sweet, fairy-like, and admittedly a bit ditzy in the face. But the Vancouver-based creator is running a digital empire that thrives on subverting expectations. Whether she is hand-painting a snacks stadium for the Super Bowl or leading a "mother-daughter" viral trend that sends commenters into a math-induced frenzy, Avery knows exactly how to manipulate the algorithm.
Sitting down on The Lexis Star Show, Avery breaks down the reality of managing 850,000 followers across multiple accounts while constantly dodging the Instagram "ban wave." It is a delicate balance of protecting her verified status and leaning into the "rage bait" that keeps her engagement high. "People always will be like, 'that's so dumb, like she's so stupid,' but I’m literally... I’m smart because you’ve commented," she says. "You got them to engage."
The Art of the Rage Bait and Viral Deception
Avery’s success isn't accidental. It’s calculated. She’s part of a wave of creators who have mastered the art of the "mother and daughter" trend—a trope that intentionally confuses viewers about the age gap between the two subjects to spark heated debates in the comment section. One of those videos alone garnered 50 million views.
For Avery, the hate is just fuel. If a video blows up because people think she’s bad at math or "dumb," she’s already won. She even encourages her peers to copy her homework. "I always let people like, if I have a viral video, please like copy it, use it," she explains. "Because they work and I wanna see the people in my life get successful."
"Girls are meant to support each other in this industry. There you go, in any industry actually. Girls need to support each other."
Switching Personas: The Fairy vs. The Aggressive Side
There is a sharp contrast between Avery’s public persona and her private content. While she leans into a soft, ethereal aesthetic on social media, she admits to having a "more aggressive side" that catches her fans off guard. She’s a "switch" who finds fulfillment in fulfilling fantasies that range from humiliation to the deeply obscure.
She doesn't shy away from her niche interests, specifically mentioning her collection of "monster toys"—creations shaped like everything from dinosaurs to stacked Halloween pumpkins. "I just love being outside the box," she says. "There's only so many like normal videos I can make." This willingness to go where others won't is what took her from 15,000 followers to a top earner almost overnight during her early days on OFTV.
"I think in the face, I come off very like sweet and ditzy and fairy-like... But I definitely have like a kinky more aggressive side that people are quite surprised by."
The Pivot to Fantasy Literature
Perhaps the most surprising revelation is what Avery does when the camera is off. For the past six months, she has been deep in the world of world-building and character arcs, recently hitting the 200-page mark on a fantasy novel. It isn't the "smut" book most would expect from someone in her industry; she describes it as "wholesome."
The book focuses on unique superpowers—a topic Avery has clearly spent hours pondering. While she uses her platform to fund her life, the writing is her true passion project. "I don’t necessarily feel like I need to quit [this job]," she says, "but I do actually have like other jobs that I work on outside of this kind of as passion jobs." She currently balances her time between responding to fans on one screen and typing her manuscript on the other.
Defeating Social Anxiety and the "Girl's Girl" Ethos
Despite the high-stakes world of content creation, Avery maintains a grounded perspective on the drama. Facing a ban wave that took down her main account for a day was just another Tuesday. Her focus remains on being a "girl's girl" in an industry that can often feel competitive or isolating.
Having dealt with social anxiety throughout her life, Avery prioritizes professional integrity and personal kindness over the opinions of anonymous trolls. "Hate comments, like bring them on, I don't care," she says. "But all I want is to like be the best version of myself." Whether she's managing her editor, planning a music festival stint, or finishing her next chapter, Avery Skye is proving she is far more than the ditzy persona she plays on screen.
